The design approach employed by ComNet forequipment mounted for the C1PS integral 115/230VAC power supply, provides for the elimination ofa single-point failure in the event of a major faultwithin any module located within the chassis rack.This is acco mplished through the use of automaticelectronic current limiting within each rack-mountablemodule, rather than providing the currentlimiting within the power supply unit whichsupports the power requirements for equipmentlocated within the rack.

In near ly all competingdesigns, a major fault within a module, locatedwithin the chassis rack, results in the power supplyunit going into a current limiting condition, and as aresult, all of the modules within the rack shut down.The C1PS design employed by Co mNet eliminatesthis possibility, as only the faulty module shutsdown, and the operation of the other moduleswithin the rack continue unimpaired.

Thisautomatic current limiting feature is alsoself-resetting, should the fault or overload beof a temporary or intermittent condition.
